Welcome to Slovenia Mountain running has been strongly anchored in the Slovenian Athletic Federation for more than two decades and therefore benefits from their patronage.
For many years now mountain runners from Slovenia have competed in World Mountain Running Association events, bringing home medals from World and European Championships as well as the Long Distance Mountain Running Challenge and the International Youth Challenge.
In 2001 Slovenia hosted the best European mountain runners for the European Mountain Running Championships and in 2010 the best from the entire World for the World Mountain Running Championships! Following on from these two events, this year the World Long Distance Mountain Running Challenge as well as the International Youth Mountain Running Challenge is also taking place in Slovenia - a natural and logical continuation of our aims and goals for developing mountain running our country and promoting Slovenian Mountain Running outwards. |

The organisers of both these races are well known within the Slovenian mountain running scene and I am sure the competitions will be of the highest professional standard. The World Long Distance Mountain Running Challenge marks the 10th Jubilee Anniversary of "the Four municipalities Marathon" and is definitely one of the greatest sporting events the small village of Podbrdo can imagine to host.
The International Youth Challenge will take place in the Poljanska valley, which has been the cradle of the best mountain running athletes for the last 15 years.
I wish all athletes a successful competition and a pleasant stay in Slovenia, a time that they will remember for the rest of their lives.
